CASE STUDY

Objective:

The objective of this comparison/update exercise was to rebuild the Overview dashboard from the Retails Superstore sample dashboard in Microsoft Power BI. Company decided to conduct this comparison to better understand one of Retail competitors and to gain some knowledge of its feature set.

Key Performance Indicator is a measure for business to understand how they perform in specific area that is important and many times critical for their business. For example they would like to see how the current year to date sales is going against what they estimated? Is it higher or lower? What is the trend? Is it going upward or downward? There are some visualization options to show Power BI, and from them the most commons are; Gauges, Charts with arrows that shows upward or downward, and color code of red, amber, or green (visualizing the status).

Introduction:

The purpose of this project Retail have large amount data e-commerce market  ,any changes in price , category changes , subcategory update for now we are  developing visualization of that reflection using Microsoft  power BI all reflection and updating category ,count product , how many  store are in location/zip etc. can see in single  visualize dashboard like gauge , progress bar ,pie chart line chart.

Last amount of data set define meaning in single Visualize Dashboard.

About Re:

The Retail Company, or simply Retail, is an American retailing company founded by Bernard Retail in 1883 in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is the United States’ largest supermarket chain by revenue ($115.34 billion for fiscal year 2016), the second-largest general retailer (behind Walmart) and the eighteenth largest company in the United States.

Retail is also the third-largest retailer in the world and the third largest private employer in the United States. As of December 2015, Retail operates, either directly or through its subsidiaries, 2,778 supermarkets and multi-department stores. Retail’s headquarters are in downtown Cincinnati.

It maintains markets in 34 states, with store formats that include hypermarkets, supermarkets, superstores, department stores, and 326 jewelry stores (786 convenience stores were sold to EG Group in 2018). Retail-branded grocery stores are located in the Midwestern and Southern United States. Retail operates 37 food processing or manufacturing facilities, 1,360 supermarket fuel centers and 2,122 pharmacies.

Distribution and logistics:

Food distribution and buying takes place under various subsidiaries and divisions.

  • Retail Group Cooperative, Inc.
  • Retail Group, Inc.
  • Peyton’s
  • WESCO
  • Inter-American Products

Retail operates its own fleet of trucks and trailers to distribute products to its various stores, in addition to contracts with various trucking Companies. In June 2018, Retail announced testing.

Now we scrape a data of Retail store and create the representation of graph format for the easy to understand result set. We can filter out all the columns in visualization that is show the relation of two or more columns.

Like: We scrape Retail store for zip 61604. We have 30 columns in this file and row depends on all product of particular location.

Columns are: id, site,  zip, date, image link, price, Price_Mult, Eprice, Eindicator, altprice, AltpriceMult, Ealtprice, AltIndicator, pack, unit, uom, size, product_id, upc, asin, category, description, note, rating, valid, pageimage, aisle, orig_upc, job_number, sale_enddate

Data presentation for Kroger in below screenshot:

1. Data Table Set :

This is data set of Retail all fields, file column have id , zip, date , image link , price, Eprice

etc. imported in power BI  this data set showing in tabular for here can run custom query filter separate column , merge column etc.

2. Category Count:

This graph represents job number of category. That is showing category when select one category then it will show how many category are count in selected category. Kroger have large amount of category this is graphical representation of category count.

3. Category/Subcategory/SubCategory2:

Graphical representation count of category/subcategory/sabcategory2 basis . When select single category then it will show single category count when select using chaining like select category and select subcategory then it show count of selected subcategory in graphical representation in power BI.

4. This graph represents the count of price of particular indicator. If we select any eindicator then it show the count of price.

Summary:

This was the visualization steps of Retail data that is represent of relation of two or mare columns. At last we make a dashboard that is show all Result set of all columns of Retail data.
